Oakland: There's finally some there there

Hey radio pals,

I'm a little early with this month's update, but there's so much exciting stuff going on, I thought I'd better get this out now. We've re-launched in Santa Cruz on a new station, we've got a big comedy show coming up in Oakland, t-shirts are flying off the shelves and I've become a published psuedo-journalist. More below.

Afternoon Tea with Patton Oswalt & Friends

As you can see from the flier above, we've got a really cool show coming up in Oakland on Sunday afternoon. Our friend Rusty Mahakian put it together under his A Bookburning Comedy Showcase banner (he's also performing), and it features a real murderer's row of comics. Our old friend Patton Oswalt is headlining and hosting. He was also our guest on
this past week's show. Arj Barker is leading up the undercard -- a San Francisco legend and a brilliant, captivating comic. Brent Weinbach, who's been heard a few times on the show, is a good friend of mine and of the show, and will also perform. And Mary Van Note, who graduated from UCSC just a couple years ago, will be performing her own unique brand of Kaufman-esque humor. It's all Sunday at the AK Press warehouse in Oakland. The show starts at 2:30PM, and is $10... we're not advertising this anywhere, so please tell your friends -- even if you don't live in the Bay Area, I'm sure someone you know does. This will be the best Bay Area comedy show of the year, and you'll be out of there just in time for a nice dinner in the East Bay.

Our KUSP Launch

I'm proud to report that we've re-launched The Sound of Young America in our homeland - Santa Cruz. The folks at
KUSP, the local NPR affiliate and community radio station, have been really supportive of the show, and I'm proud to be associated with the station. If you're in the Monterey Bay Area, you can hear the show every Sunday at six PM.

In the Metro Santa Cruz

You might enjoy
this piece I wrote for the Metro Santa Cruz to coincide with our re-launch in the Scruz. It's a few selections from my unpublished 12,000 page memoir, and it's fun. First thing I've ever had published, and I've already heard from a lot of old-school Santa Cruz TSOYA listeners who really enjoyed it.

T-Shirts are moving fast! That's most of what's up with me... what do you think of what we've been up to? As always, I hope I'll hear from you with your thoughts: Just call (206)-984-4FUN or email me at splangy@splangy.com.

Your Radio BFF,
JT, "ARS"
